The Z06 with the Z07 delivers
more downforce of any production car ever tested at the GM wind tunnel.
Not exact matches
There are a number
of reasons for this - as well as the obvious loss
of downforce, by following in the wake
of another car the dirty air generated causes the follower to slide around and overheat their tyres, which makes the idea
of a driver dropping a couple
of seconds behind a rival a
more effective strategy.
Increasing
downforce levels means it will be
more challenging for drivers to follow other cars through corners because
of the aero disturbance and instability.
According to IndyCar the new bodywork generates a whopping 66 per cent
of its
downforce from underneath the car (19 percent up on the current cars) and following distances have been cut in half, which should lead to much closer racing and
more passing opportunities.
But I talk
of way faster, because we can make cars which go 450kph and have way
more downforce.
He's also the current chairman
of the GPDA and has said he'd like to see cars have even
more downforce and
more powerful engines so that the cars can go up to 450kph.
The new bodywork generates a whole lot
more of its
downforce from the underside
of the car.
The reduced
downforce also has the knock - on effect
of tyres taking longer to come up to operating temperature (there are no tyre warmers in IndyCar) as well as making them wear out quicker because the drivers are sliding around
more.
Newey conceded that most
of the development had occurred at the rear end

Built with an all - aluminum body structure, the XKR - S GT moves through the air
more swiftly, achieving a maximum
downforce of 320 pounds thanks to a carbon - fiber front splitter that extends forward 2.4 inches, carbon - fiber dive planes, extended wheel arches, and an aluminum undertray.

more than the P1.

more downforce, which produces
more speed and
more downforce!
By adding a spoiler in the shape
of the kicked - up boot - lid along with a diffuser underneath, they've also found a third
more downforce.
For starters, it pushes for even
more extreme boundaries: 30 percent quicker upshifts; 40 percent quicker downshifts; higher combustion pressures and temperatures than the California T; up to 50 percent
more downforce than the 458; a lower center
of gravity; active air flow devices front and rear; wider tires (245 / 35R -20 front, 305 / 30R -20 rear).

Thanks to all these elements — and with a little bit
of help from a slightly larger lip spoiler on the tail — the underbody aero package creates 310 kg
of downforce at 186mph (300kph), which is 30 kg
more than the F430 can muster.
There's also a deployable wing that extends 150 mm from the body and can change its angle
of attack by up to 15 degrees for even
more downforce.
MINI claims the aero qualities
of the car are improved, too, but makes no specific claims about
downforce, so take it as read that there is a little bit less lift than before, but not much
more than that.
McLaren is building 75 Senna GTRs with 825 horsepower and
more than a ton
of downforce.
First, the GT3RS, arguably the most - extreme 911 ever — the monstrous rear wing (
more than 700 pounds
of downforce!)
Yet, because it is a Lotus, the Evora 400 features «zero - lift», although the aero package increases
downforce by 50 lbs (23kgs) at V - max, to make
more efficient use
of its immensely capable road manners.
The engineers actually came up with two packages, with the
more extreme option, part
of the available ZTK Performance Package, capable
of generating 950 pounds
of downforce, thanks mostly to a huge rear wing.
Nissan says there's
more downforce — always handy at the speeds the GT - R is capable
of — while simultaneously reducing the coefficient
of drag — so it can
more easily hit those high speeds —
of just 0.26.
The FXX K produces 540 kg
of downforce at 125mph, it is the first Ferrari ever with
more than 1,000 bhp and, perhaps most significantly, it can lap Ferrari's Fiorano track in 1m 14.5 secs, compared to 1m 19secs for the LaFerrari.
The improved
downforce on the axle and reduced weight with the aid
of the carbon fiber elements does make the car
more stable at high speeds.
But
more than just power, the C7 benefits from a redeveloped aero package with the larger adjustable wing capable
of generating 950 pounds
of downforce.
In its latest update, the Aventador gets 40
more horsepower, a whole lot
of downforce, and «Ego mode.»
Although the aerodynamics package does not produce the same levels
of downforce as the GT1 car, the C6.R is
more predictable over a wide range
of speeds.
This upgrade
of the GT3 in its design and contours serves above all to optimise the car's aerodynamics: The modifications increase
downforce both on the front and rear axle, ensu - ring
more than twice as much
downforce overall as on the former GT3.
The Extreme Aero package delivers
more than three times the
downforce of the Viper TA (Time Attack) 2.0 package.
But even
more impressive are Apollo's claims the IE's maximum cornering grip is equal to two times the force
of gravity and that as the car nears its top speed all that wild aero generates
more than the car's curb weight — 1,350 kg — in
downforce.
The promise is all there with a new butch front end, a
more aggressive body kit, chunks
of carbon fibre, a huge rear wing for extra
downforce, a new diffuser at the back, stiffer springs, a new rear subframe with stiffer bushes, a tweaked active diff and a tweak
of the stability control for
more fun.
And although it is quite a looker, aero was another major consideration for the development team, which worked to reduce coefficient
of drag in the name
of less wind noise, better engine efficiency, and
more downforce.
Two aero packages are offered with the car - a low wing that is claimed to generate 70 %
more downforce than the Z06 and an adjustable high wing that Chevrolet claims to generate over 431 kg
of downforce at the rear.
That new P1 front end new LED headlights mark the 650S out from the 12C, with a
more integrated front splitter increasing
downforce and door blades behind the front wheels directing air from the trailing edges
of the splitter for better front end grip.
Actually, the BT62 delivers
more downforce than its own weight, thanks to the aggressive aerodynamic package:
more than 1,200 kg (2,645 lb)
of downforce to be precise.
The carbon fiber rear spoiler is the highlight
of a
more aggressive aero package, which also incorporates STI front, rear and side underspoilers for better
downforce and stability.
