In the midfield, (including RWB & LWB) we have a whole bunch of tweeners... none offer the full package, none make sense in our manager's current favourite formation, except for Sead on the left and Ox on the right, and all of them have never shown any consistency for more than a heartbeat... Sead, who I'm including in this category because of our present formation, looks like a positive addition, minus his occasional brain farts, but I would rather see what he could do in a back 4 before making my mind up... Ox, who has never played better, which isn't saying much considering his largely underwhelming play in previous seasons, seems to have found a home in this new formation; unfortunately, can we really expect this oft - injured player to handle the taxing duties that come with said position over the long haul, not to mention, it looks like he has no intention of staying... Ramsey has relied on the empathy that stems from his gruesome injury years ago and the excitement that was generated a few years back when he finally seemed to put in altogether, but on the whole he has been a big disappointment (neither he nor the Ox have scored enough to warrant a regular spot)... Wiltshire should be put on a weekly contract then played until he suffers his first injury, if and when that occurs he should be shipped - out and no one should very be allowed to say his name on club grounds ever again... During the glory
years, Arsenal fans had become spoilt and with the new stadium to be paid for and the new oil rich clubs
coming in, it was never going to be possible to compete even though I would have
expected a cup or two
in that time it never quite happened, and every
year I went back the
more it became obvious why; the fans were divided.
I know after watching him go on a tear this
year and receiving player of the month honors
in March, all while
coming back earlier than
expected from a broken foot and one of the big reasons we defeated teams on the March to the FA cup he certainly
more than anyone should raise his game this
year.
I'm not sure how Arsene
expects to get any
more from the defender, when Jose Mourinho is known for parking the bus and focussing on a solid defence, and at 28
years - of - age I do not
expect him to improve too much
in the
coming years.
Nothing like one underachiever blowing smoke up the ass of another... we know that Ozil has some incredible technical gifts, but to be considered the best you have to bring
more than just assists to the table... for me, a top player has to possess a
more well - rounded game, which doesn't mean they need to be a beast on both ends of the pitch, but they must have the ability to take their game to another level when it matters most... although he amassed some record - like stats early on, it set the bar too high, so when people
expected him to duplicate those numbers each
year the pressure seemed to get the best of our soft - spoken star... obviously that's not an excuse for what has happened
in the meantime, but it's important to make note of a few things: (1) his best
year was a transition
year for many of the traditionally dominant teams
in the EPL, so that clearly made the numbers appear better than they actually were and (2) Wenger's system, or lack thereof, didn't do him any favours; by playing him out of position and by not acquiring world - class striker and / or right - side forward that would best fit an Ozil - centered offensive scheme certainly hurt his chances to repeat his earlier peformances, (3) the loss of Cazorla, who took a lot of pressure off Ozil
in the midfield and was highly efficient when it
came to getting him the ball
in space, negatively impacted his effectiveness and (4) he likewise missed a good chunk of games and frankly never looked himself when he eventually returned to the field... overall the Ozil experiment has had mixed reviews and rightfully so, but I do have some empathy for the man because he has always carried himself the same way, whether for Real or the German National team, yet he has only suffered any lengthy down periods with Arsenal... to me that goes directly to this club's inability to surround him with the necessary players to succeed, especially for someone who is a pass first type of player; as such, this simply highlights our club's ineffective and antiquated transfer policies... frankly I'm disappointed
in both Ozil and our management team for not stepping up when it counted because they had a chance to do something special, but they didn't have it
in them... there is no one that better exemplifies our recent history than Ozil, brief moments of greatness undercut by long periods of disappointing play, only made worse by his mopey posturing like a younger slightly less awkward Wenger... what a terribly waste
The young Nigerian midfielder has signed a five -
year contract for us, which shows how highly our club rates his potential, and we can
expect to hear
more of him
in the
coming years.
I agree that we can
expect a lot
more from Arsenal
in a few weeks time, but there are some crucial games
coming up quickly, especially the one against Besiktas which could see us drop out of the Champions League group stages for the first time
in 16
years.
Our biggest achievement for the last few
years is finishing on top of Liverfool and Spuds, would be ridiculous to name the rest of the league, any Manager with this squad could do that, because of his past glories we
come to
expect more from Wenger, what he does instead nothing sitting
in his chest of gold dreaming that he will win this league with the same players and he knows that if that doesn't happen he still will be there next season pocketing 8M
Aaron Ramsey, perhaps the most criticized on this list, he is the most frustrating, and even worse AW seems to think he has to get him
in the side somehow, On his game Ramsey is immense, he has energy for days, can influence the game at both ends, however the Ramsey of 2014 doesn't seem to be
coming back, everything he hit that
year was
in, everything he touched was gold, the unfortunate fact is he has never got close to those standards since, even
more unfortunate is that aw will probably stick with him still, I
expect him to either start with Xhaka or start on the right.
Walcott has been enjoying regular appearances
in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup, but with the 28
year - old
coming into his prime, you would
expect he should be looking to play much
more regularly.
Expect him to thrive and improve even
more in 2018 and be a key component of the franchise for
years to
come.
The lookahead line was Baylor -13 before the
year so we'd
expect more bets to
come in on Baylor since the spread is down to -3.
