Several scientific studies have shown scented candles to be more polluting than non-scented varieties, producing more soot as the result of
more incomplete combustion that may occur from the presence of additional chemicals in the candle.
Black carbon, together with other products of
incomplete combustion and air pollutants, kills
more than 7 million people a year, according to the 2012 Global Burden of Disease study.
