Worse still — and
more to the point
of my concern — the translation
of the one Word
of God into direct social and political terms has meant that the churches neglect the message for which they do have sole responsibility, that which constitutes their specific raison d'etre, and which no other agency in the
world is called on or is competent to proclaim: the gospel
of Holy Scripture which has the
power to make people wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15).

This is,
of course, no
more than we should expect, if we take the New Testament's Paschal triumphalism to heart: «Now is the judgment
of this
world, now will the prince
of this
world be cast out» (John 12:31); «I have overcome the
world» (John 16:33); he is «far above all principality, and
power, and might, and dominion» and all things are put «under his feet» (Ephesians 1:21 - 2); «having spoiled principalities and
powers, he made a show
of them openly, triumphing over them in it» (Colossians 2:15); «he led captivity captive» (Ephesians 4:8); and so on.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir

worlds; Who being the brightness
of [his] glory, and the express image
of his person, and upholding all things by the word
of his

As Heidegger journeyed
more and

My contention is that this places Ivan's sensibility much nearer to the authentic vision
of the New Testament than are many
of the
more pious and conventional forms
of Christian conviction today The gospel
of the ancient church was always one
of rebellion against those principalities and
powers — death chief among them — that enslave and torment creation; nowhere does the New Testament rationalize evil or accord it necessity or treat it as part
of the necessary fabric
of God's
world.
The
power of God in us gives us the ability to live and love like Jesus Christ in this

Hebrews 1:1 KJV God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir
of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds; 3 Who being the brightness
of his glory, and the express image
of his person, and upholding all things by the word
of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand
of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a

Another example was alluded to before: the fact that our
world seems to have taken shape over a period
of many billions
of years, rather than having been created in essentially its present form a few thousand years ago, provides evidence against the view that the creation
of our
world required omnipotent coercive
power; this fact is much
more consistent with the view that the divine creative
power is solely the
power of persuasion, the kind
of power we can experience working in our own lives.
Or do you really think, as it seems you are saying here, that God gets
more glory from those that confess that, as long as they are in this
world, they will be in bondage to a certain amount
of sin, than from those, like myself, that confess that they are free from sin, and servants
of righteousness through the
power of Yahshua?
