I love using
mixed spices on my porridge, but never thought of using turmeric as it seems
more of a curry ingredient than for breakfast.
And I made some
more today with a good chunk of fresh ginger and swapped one of the Tbsps of cinnamon for
Mixed Spice.

Made again and used
spice cake instead of yellow cake
mix and it was even
more of that fall warm flavor!
Is it
more like garam masala (cinnamon, cloves, anise, etc), or
more like the south indian
spice mixes that are mostly a
mix of chillies, cumin and coriander?
You're
more than welcome to add your own
mix of herbs and
spices to cater to your taste buds.
If you make this recipe using standard hot cocoa
mix, I would recommend adding tiny amounts of any of these
spices from your cupboard to make the flavor
more enticing.
The
spice mix was super fresh and flavorful though so you may need to use
more of a commercial brand to get the same effect.
The
more ingredients the better as that will give the
spice mix a complex and full bodied flavor.
Crumble the extra firm tofu and
mix in the
spices, place on a non-stick baking tray and bake for 20 minutes or
more.

Spread out in one layer on parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350º for approximately 8 minutes or until nuts are lightly browned and coating has hardened / Remove from oven and toss piping hot hazelnuts into a large bowl along with any sugary goop leftover from the sauce pan / Add the 1 teaspoon of reserved
spices and
mix it all thoroughly again / Pop back into the oven for two
more minutes, remove from oven, cool and store in airtight containers / They keep well for up to two weeks, or let the munchies begin sooner rather than later.
As written, this White Chicken Chili is relatively mild, but you can
spice it up by leaving the seeds in the jalapenos and / or adding
more of them to the
mix.
Needed
more spice for me though, hence the 4 stars, would use 1 tsp
mixed spice next time.
The second time I added a little
more mixed spice and they tasted even better.
