Granted, these movies are based
on superhero comics, which do this sort of character development a lot, with characters baldly stating what they're thinking or feeling because of the comparative struggle of comics to delve into their characters» heads, lacking consistent devices for inner monologues (as a
more traditional novel would have) or the benefit of an actor's performance (as a movie or TV show would have).
The sequel to 2008's surprise

on the over-saturated market for
superhero movies, so you wouldn't have been blamed for thinking you didn't want
more.
Tragically, the new project will not simply be a documentary in which Gad employs ever -
more complex schemes to get Ridley to cough up some Star Wars spoilers; instead, Variety is describing it as a «subversive take
on the
superhero genre,» an idea that we can't help but note is almost as old as the
superhero genre itself.
Still, even Blade's success wasn't enough to get
more top - tier black
superheroes films
on the big screen.
I thought about it even
more during Black Panther, his globe - trotting Marvel
superhero extravaganza that nonetheless begins and ends with sad, streetwise children talking smack
on an Oakland housing project's ramshackle basketball court.
Whether it's the economic unease rumbling underneath «The Florida Project,» «Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri» and «Lady Bird,» the political skulduggery of «The Post» or the racial tensions of «Get Out» and «Wind River,» Hollywood did have a little
more on its mind than sequels and

The titular battle royale feels entirely contrived, and ultimately amounts to limit

With so much
on the line - and a full decade of movies leading up to its story - Avengers: Infinity War is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated
superhero movies of all time (though we're anticipating one other 2018 film even
more).
The film currently holds a 98 percent rating
on Rotten Tomatoes (it was at 100 percent for a while), but even
more impressively, the Marvel film holds the title for the highest rated live - action
superhero movie ever.
And co-composers James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer break new ground as well: rather than the usual trumpeting
superhero music, they turn to simpler,
more startling effects, like a madman finding all the wrong keys
on a piano.
We're close to the action in this film, often shot from low to the ground,
more like a «Bourne» film than a
superhero movie, and the focus is
more on fight choreography than editing.
Moreover, I hate that modern pop culture is so literalminded as to place a high premium
on plausibility, while I'm 99 % sure that knowing the Batsuit could stop bullets off camera, too, is not going to convert any of the haters, whose snotty disdain for the
superhero genre is
more a fashion statement than an issue of disbelief.
While Black Panther will almost certainly experiences some drop - off in its second week, one thing is for certain: It has already left its mark
on the
superhero movie genre and,
more importantly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.
We can expect further details
on what other additions will be included as the release date draws nearer but for now it's just nice to know there will be
more to look forward to this summer than
superhero popcorn flicks and swimming pools.
