more women lawyers having a long career.

more women lawyers in leadership but they can't find enough interested women.

I conducted focused interviews with male and female
lawyers throughout the firm to obtain
more specific data about their attitudes, perceptions, and experiences toward or as
women.
Unlike the
more familiar divorce proceedings where parties hire gunslinger
lawyers and have their dirty laundry aired in public courthouses, these
women each retained a collaboratively - trained attorney (Ellen Ware and myself) who are experienced in respectful and interest - based negotiations.
The profession has changed:
more than 50 % of new
lawyers are
women and
more than 20 % are racialized It is exciting that
lawyers now
more closely reflects the community they serve.
Now, 15 years later, the Law Society of Upper Canada has released its report on retaining
women in the profession and many of the same issues raised by Wilson are still present: a high proportion of
women enter the legal profession at the initial entry level (
more than 50 per cent of
lawyers called to the bar are female), and that there is a higher attrition rate for
women than men from private practice.

more difficulty finding mentors and sponsors partly because men often gravitate to working with younger male associates whose challenges they relate to
more easily.
By contrast with other government
lawyers who the Ontario government has voluntarily recognized,
more than two - thirds of LAO
lawyers are
women.
Loretta Merritt is one of the few
lawyers in Ontario who has
more than 25 years of experience representing men,
women and children in sexual assault and abuse lawsuits.
