If you have a Kindle e-Reader,
most often you will find books in EPUB, and not
AZW, MOBI, PRC or other Amazon friendly formats.
The
most common formats of eBooks are PDF,
AZW, LIT, EPUB, ODF, and MOBI.
MOBI /
AZW is known to have similarities with the ePub data structure and has
most of the code embedded into its format.
However, it is safe to say that ebooks for the Kindle are usually in MOBI or
AZW format and that
most other e-readers and tablets support the EPUB format.
The Kindle e-reader uses mobi or
azw files whilst
most other e-readers use epub files.
Most of the Kindle users, use
AZW format which is easily available on Amazon store.
Some argue that because Amazon readily supports
most major platforms, consumers who invest in
AZW - format books are making a safe decision since these books are, at present and for all intents and purposes, portable across the
most common devices people are likely to own.
Some might whinge about the different file types understood by the Kindle, with EPUB
most notably absent (it does recognise MOBI files, as well as its own
AZW books though), but considering Amazon is the largest seller of digital titles in the world, it is likely you'll buy all your books from it in the first place.
