Most cod liver oils are heat - processed which ruins much of the vitamin A and D.

cod liver oil or other fish
liver oils are the highest in vitamin D.
Vitamin A is
most abundant in
liver and fish
liver oils, such as
cod liver oil.11 Plant foods rich in carotenoids also provide vitamin A, although they do so much less reliably than
liver and
cod liver oil because the ability to convert carotenoids to vitamin A varies about ten-fold between individuals.
Most commercial
cod liver oils are a far cry from the natural nutrition found in this true superfood.

I have gone to a more vegan diet with pea protein smoothies powdered goat's milk (I have found cow's milk is a trigger for inflammation in my body) and a banana for breakfast and wild caught salmon for lunch

cod liver oil in health food stores are highly refined, going through a process that removes all of the natural vitamin A and D.
The
most helpful things will be vitamin A (
liver, spinach, sweet potatoes, carrots; if you don't eat
liver weekly then supplement preformed A from
cod liver oil), vitamin D (sun or supplements), and vitamin C to near bowel tolerance.
As previously mentioned
most dietary sources do not have sufficient vitamin D (read here for the exceptions including
cod liver oil and lard).
Although, they have been around for a while,
most of the baby boomer generation can remember their grandparent's
cod liver oil supplements.
As the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency (which would benefit from
cod liver oil) in the U. S. is much lower than the prevalence of subclinical vitamin A toxicity, while
most everyone suffers from vitamin D deficiency, I no longer recommend taking
cod liver oil for either adults or children.
