Among those who did were three of Lin Fengmian's
most gifted pupils, Zhao Wuji (Zao Wou - Ki, 1920 — 2013), Zhu Dechun (Chu Teh - Chun, 1920 — 2014), and Wu Guanzhong (1919 — 2010).
But if the new exams provide more challenge for
the most gifted pupils, he says the impact at the average and lower ability end remains uncertain.
Not exact matches
While competition for places at such schools would no doubt be extremely competitive,
most parents (and
pupils) would know whether their child was truly
gifted, and therefore whether they should apply.
Announcing the scheme today, schools minister Andrew Adonis said the programme was designed to give
gifted and talented
pupils the confidence and skills needed to apply for the
most academic institutions.
Participants from the teacher training Teach First scheme - including those that have moved into roles in industry - will mentor disadvantaged but
gifted and talented
pupils in a bid to raise participation in the
most academically demanding courses.
But the truly
gifted need something that
most schools can not give them — extremely highly qualified teaching, a very demanding curriculum that stretches them permanently and not just occasionally, university level coaching and access, and perhaps
most importantly, other
gifted pupils that they can work with.
Wang Shimin's
pupil, Wang Hui was the third of the Wangs, and the fourth one was Wang Yuanqi, the
most gifted of the four, and the personal favorite of the Kangxi Emperor.
