As a DIA curator, I researched our extraordinary painting collection, enhanced our permanent
galleries by displaying our artwork in new ways, curated temporary exhibitions, visited private and
public art collections with our patrons, and identified new works for acquisition among many other things — the work curators perform is one of the
most interesting in the museum profession because of the multiplicity of duties that it entails.
MFAH is the only U.S. museum to present the Rothko exhibition, which culls the extensive Rothko holdings of the National
Gallery of
Art in Washington D.C. Houston, as it happens, is home to the Rothko Chapel, one of the Rothko's
most renowned
public commissions.
In addition to landmark gifts to Tate, that included the first Picasso, Matisse, Anthony Caro and Damien Hirst to enter a UK
public collection, the Contemporary
Art Society has a track record of substantial support to regional museums, including the first work by Francis Bacon to Huddersfield in 1952, an installation by Olafur Eliasson to Eastbourne in 2003 a piece by Kader Attia for Middlesbrough Institute of Modern
