Cat People in not just a tree - knot mailbox, but also the depth of its parent / child relationship, all of disappointment and horror.

movies have been made on the cheap.

Cat People with Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell — not that the two animalistic
movies have much in common other than dangerous, large - fanged creatures and a bit of 1980s spandex.

movie's manic, elliptical pace is a little overwhelming, opt instead for The Neon Demon, Nicolas Winding Refn's attempt to stretch the dream sequence from Paul Schrader's
Cat People to feature length.
Just as I fail to see what's so exciting about explosive action taken to mind - numbing, snooze - inducing lengths in those films, I am at an equal loss as to their worth in this one, save to copy
cat them for
people who think just referring to a
movie is sufficient enough to consider it satire.

People with that many
cats ARE a horror
movie in themselves.
A dazzling, disturbing delight that borrows liberally from Hollywood genre cinema, Italian giallo, Paul Schrader's
Cat People, and straight up horror (including the appropriation of the word «demon», up until now more readily associated with B -
movie chillers), it is also nastily unique — a beautiful nightmare that will wrong - foot you right to the end.
A few others that made my personal list which are nowhere here: Motel Hell, The
People Under the Stairs, Wolfen, Ginger Snaps, Dead & Buried, Bride of Chucky, Deranged (1972), Misery,
Cat People (1982), Fright Night (no, I still don't see what's supposed to be homophobic about the
movie even though I would love to hear Ed's theories), the ever unfairly maligned Scream, the entirely fairly maligned Clownhouse, and I, Madman.
Coppola picked up the stylized color palettes for The Godfather
movies, where the sepia became an idealized past contrasted with the chilly present of Michael's corruption, and brought Storaro over to shoot Apocalypse Now, while Paul Schrader reached out to production designer Ferdinando Scarfiotti to be his «visual consultant» on American Gigolo and
Cat People, films with defining, carefully painted color palettes.
And while I've only sampled a little of the Val Lewton Blogathon co-hosted by the Speakeasy and Classic
Movie Man blogs, Jo Gabriel's marvelous, richly illustrated two part analysis of Curse of the
Cat People is a clear standout (Part II here).
