Nobody thought much of religions other than Christianity; as was obvious by our public school pledge — which admonished us all to be good Christian citizens... Sure, I had questions too, but our church was pretty low - key so I was safe from some of the more radically - minded (read: brainwashed) of my peers.

It just seems that people like Hawking ignore religion completely when a HUGE part of science is questioning all beliefs including your own which I don't think human beings do as much as they should, or respect other people's opinions.

I watched the show, and am a American caucasin female from a very rural, but not southern area.I found the show interesting and thought provoking.Just as in our own Judio - Christian religions, women are expected to be somewhat subserviant and makes our American Islam citizens seem pretty much like any other citizens.I found this to be a good and humanizing feature.If you love U.S.A., and are a citizen you are the same as anyone else.Just encourage each other and us, too.

Considering that this is a league for private and PAROCHIAL schools, and a Jewish Day School is as much a parochial school as a Christian school of any denomination (or any other recognized organized religion, for that matter), it's a shame that TAPPS and other similar organizations not support a decision of faith as, at a minimum, an expression of tolerance.

I mention, only because my... paradigm (I'm not much on beliefs, in the usual organized religion sense)... includes a «Divine» of my own definition, that equates to something like «awe of life, love, and knowing that there is much we don't know» (< — sorry, not the easiest thing for me to get into words, hopefully that gets the gist of it) that I don't see as a «personal other», but, in my paradigm, I see that Divine as being systemic to everything, hence insights from what I learn / experience can be termed as the Divine acting.

I cant speak much for the other Religions, but one can say the same about them as well... Buddhism for example... while their temples can be seen as less grandiose in the native locations, in the West they become Statements of what MAN can do to show - off, and not what man can do to seek the Divine.

The internet will not give you the figures on how many people have died in anguish fully believing God was on their side and that they were fighting in his name or at least in his honor, defending their national religion as much as they did their lands from other soldiers who had been told essentially the same story on the other side.

Atheists are like this because they are analytical thinkers and not so much intuitive where as we Christians and people of other religions are more intuitive but less analytical in our thinking.

The confusion for me, again even as a little kid (ages 9 - 11 particularly, at a time when I was quite the believer even), was that all the other religions pretty much said the same thing... prayers answered, miracle cures, and with the same back up, that «unanswered» prayers were either an answer, «no» or «not yet»... OR... the person asking didn't have the right heart, or didn't ask for the right thing, or asked the wrong way, etc..

For every «personal testimony» in favor of your religion, there is one for every other religion, made with just as much sincerity and belief.

The Universe, known and unknown, is possibly not the most used definition of God, at least in the western world... but it is the Pantheistic version that jives so much more with science and is not a misappropriation of the smaller definitions of God, merely an unfamiliar definition to those with less knowledge of various more advanced religious and philosophic thought, within and outside those religions... The idea of Pantheism also thoughtfully considers why there is, rather than ridiculing, such a wide range of philosophical and ritual beliefs from a scientific perspective... without having to classify large groups of people, as senseless idiots from one end or destined for hell from the other.

I guarantee the reason for them... is not just because the few on one side or the other, are so much smarter... and have the right to classify the other billions of people, convenientlly as idiots... or that all religion is imaginary fairy tales or all science is against God or that any of its truths are not in harmony with a higher concept of God.
