Regarding my immune system, I have not had so
much as a cold in the last several years as I've been doing this (running outside leads to very healthy vitamin D levels — and I supplement with
cod liver oil through the winter).
One time, I chugged a huge glass of water and took Fermented
Cod Liver Oil on an empty stomach and had a little nausea for about 10 minutes, but that was pretty
much the extent of it.
Cod Liver Oil is one of the toughest one to get kids to take, but the one I notice the most difference in their mood (

The problem is, however, that most
cod liver oil (and other fish oils) is processed in such a way that destroys
much of the naturally occurring vitamins.

As the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency (which would benefit from
cod liver oil) in the U. S. is
much lower than the prevalence of subclinical vitamin A toxicity, while most everyone suffers from vitamin D deficiency, I no longer recommend taking
cod liver oil for either adults or children.

cod liver oil out there, even from some highly reputable companies like Nordic Naturals, which produces a
cod liver oil that is clearly excessive in vitamin A as it only has 3 to 60 units of vitamin D per tablespoon but between 150 and 12,000 times as
much vitamin A. It's a delicate balance.
