When we consider prayers for
material goods, we must move
much more cautiously.
Leaders on the «outside» need to get «inside» by using technology to gain
much needed visibility into inventory and costs both of finished
goods and raw
materials.
If the prices of my
materials goes up and the new price means the
goods won't sell for that
much then it's me who has to come up with a lower price not the shops they won't take any less markup not matter what.
@Alexei, not to nitpick, but whether or not importing raw
materials, or finished
goods for that matter, is bad has nothing to do with how
much you export, or even if you export anything at all.
We have and consume twice as many
material goods than we collectively did 50 years ago, but statistically we are
much less happy.
I thought I was detached from
material goods, but spending so little time thinking about what I wore shed a light on how
much time I spent browsing online before!
But research shows that
material goods don't bring you as
much as happiness as good memories.
In the long run,
much of the economic growth of developed economies is likely to involve less energy - intensive sectors because of demand - side factors such as 1) the amount of stuff people can physically manage is limited (even with rented storage space), 2) migration to areas where the weather is more moderate will continue, 3) increased urbanization and population density reduces energy consumption per capita, 4) there is a lot of running room to decrease the energy consumption of our electronic devices (e.g., switching to clockless microprocessors, not that I'm predicting that specific innovation), 5) telecommunication will substitute for transportation on the margin, 6) cheaper and better data acquisition and processing will enable less wasteful routing and warehousing of
material goods, and 7) aging populations will eventually reduce the total amount (local plus distant) of travel per person per year.
People are not spending as
much money on
material goods as they used to in previous years.
I am most thankful for the gift of my salvation through the spilt blood of Jesus Christ, because
material goods and relationships with loved ones take on a
much more special meaning.
