And if you didn't do that with the refrigerator you would have do that with the
coal plant or combustion turbine running up and down, and doing that makes that unit run
much more inefficiently.
Similar emissions are caused by the iron, aluminum, and copper mines needed to produce material for renewable systems, Hertwich noted, but the massive scale of
coal mining makes its emissions
much more significant by comparison.
Changes in forest management and agricultural practices could significantly reduce the threat of global warming
