In the election
of an African - American president less than a half - century after the end
of official
racial segregation in
much of the country, these Americans see the triumph
of the values enshrined in the US Constitution over America's legacy
of social, political, and economic
prejudice.
During both
of these struggles
much scripture was used in defense
of racial prejudice and countless lives were lost in the struggles.
It's time to advise him now that immigrants are made in the image
of God, women are not tools and toys,
racial and religious
prejudice must be confronted, and so
much more.
And yet, partly because so
much of the paper Bradford uses is salvaged and has served other purposes, there is a sense even in Bradford's most abstract work that the world — the real world, just outside,
of naked commerce and
racial prejudice and sexuality and shouting and threats and frightened eyes and intangible yearning — is always close at hand.
