of the journal Psychological Science, when the
radioactive waste was being stored in neighboring Nevada, residents
of Salt Lake City perceived
much greater risk
of contamination if the border was a light, dotted line.
But it is unclear how
much residual
radioactive contamination is still entering the sea from leaks around the Fukushima plant, says Scott Fowler, a marine ecologist at Stony Brook University in New York who has been involved in previous assessments
of contamination levels in the ocean near Fukushima.
