much warmer space of under the seat of your pants, this is extremely convenient.

The researchers found that on windy nights it wasn't possible to measure the cooling effects of the green
spaces beyond their boundaries as there was too
much turbulent mixing of the air; but on calm
warm nights they estimate that a network of green
spaces of around 3 - 5 hectares each situated 100 - 150 m apart would provide comprehensive cooling for a city with a climate and characteristics similar to London.

Adding CO2 does not (at least not before the climate response, which is generally stratospheric cooling and surface and tropospheric
warming for increasing greenhouse gases) decrease the radiation to
space in the central portion of the band because at those wavelengths, CO2 is so opaque that
much or most radiation to
space is coming from the stratosphere, and adding CO2 increases the heights from which radiation is able to reach
space, and the stratospheric temperatures generally increase with increasing height.
One theory as to why avian flu hasn't spread as
much from chickens to humans in West Africa is that Nigeria and neighbors are
warmer and there's more
space, so people don't have to keep their chickens in their houses — meaning they breathe less chicken feces and dander, etc..
What other things in the Earth system will change when it
warms up that will affect how
much SW radiation is reflected back into
space [eg ice - albedo feedback, cloud changes] or affect what proportion of emitted LW radiation is allowed to escape to
space [eg Water Vapour, cloud changes].
Since the energy emitted goes like T ^ 4 power, the earth thus emits less energy back into
space, which is why it has to
warm (until it reaches a temperature when the earth is again emitting as
much energy back out into
space as it receives from the sun and so is back in equilibrium).
That heat must be dissipated to
space, and CO2 (which does not absorb in the UV or visible range), adds to the emissivity of the stratosphere at the
warmed temperature, while adding
much less to the absorptivity.
One of the motivations for this paper (18 pages of close -
spaced comparison and discussion of the CRUTem2v, ERA - 40 and NCEP / NCAR analysis) was the claim by Kalnay and Cai (2003) that
much of the reported
warming over North America was local and due to urbanization and land use changes (based on NCAR / NCEP).
Why is this so
much warmer than the 255 K effective temperature of the thermal radiation emitted to
space?
Max Boykoff, a graduate student in the department of environmental science at the University of California, Santa Cruz, says that it is odd that the Wall Street Journal would devote so
much space to a story about McIntyre and McKitrick when they seldom write about global
warming.

Warming Theory and Deep Ocean Circulation Changes as the Primary Climate Driver The water vapor, cloud, and condensation - evaporation assumptions within the conventional AGW theory and the (GCM) simulations are incorrectly designed to block too
much infrared (IR) radiation to
space.
«The satellite observations suggest there is
much more energy lost to
space during and after
warming than the climate models show,» Spencer said in a July 26 University of Alabama press release.
But to cause this «top - down
warming,» the
warming trends in the atmosphere would have to be more pronounced than surface
warming trends, because
much of the energy from atmospheric
warming is lost into
space and does not affect surface temperatures.
The entire atmosphere surface to 100 km edge of
space is already
much much warmer than 193K, and a true or «partial» blackbody at 193K can not
warm a
much warmer blackbody at 255K or 288K.
If we had snow on the ground it would be
much colder because of the albedo effect, and any
warming that is happening right now is due to the fact that the snowless surface is absorbing energy, where a snow covered surface would be reflecting the energy back into
space.
More of that stuff in the middle white
space... — «consistent with the estimated responses» — well, it may well be, but that doesn't prove
much — remember that the models, so far as they go, do predict some things that don't appear to be happening in the real world (tropospheric
warming, etc)-- the fact that one particular number happens to be within a (fairly large) range of predictions is not especially persuasive.
At this point, very simple physics takes over, and you are pretty
much doomed, by what scientists refer to as the «radiative» properties of carbon dioxide molecules (which trap infrared heat radiation that would otherwise escape to
space), to have a
warming planet.
> The Daily Mail has given more than five times as
much space to the Global
Warming Policy Foundation's views in its recent coverage of climate change and «green taxes» than to any other source.
Many — perhaps most — won't know that the Daily Mail gives so very
much more
space to the Global
Warming Policy Foundation than to any other source on climate / clean energy cost stories.
AGW climate scientists seem to ignore that while the earth's surface may be
warming, our atmosphere above 10,000 ft. above MSL is a refrigerator that can take water vapor scavenged from the vast oceans on earth (which are also a formidable heat sink), lift it to cold zones in the atmosphere by convective physical processes, chill it (removing vast amounts of heat from the atmosphere) or freeze it, (removing even more vast amounts of heat from the atmosphere) drop it on land and oceans as rain, sleet or snow, moisturizing and cooling the soil, cooling the oceans and building polar ice caps and even more importantly, increasing the albedo of the earth, with a critical negative feedback determining how
much of the sun's energy is reflected back into
space, changing the moment of inertia of the earth by removing water mass from equatorial latitudes and transporting this water vapor mass to the poles, reducing the earth's spin axis moment of inertia and speeding up its spin rate, etc..
Much of this IR is at wavelengths at which other atmospheric constituents do not interact, so if CO2 is exposed to a
warmer surface like the earth, it will absorb radiation that would otherwise pass through into the cold of
space AND likewise if CO2 is exposed to the cool of outer
space it will emit vast quantities of IR at wavelengths which other gases can not emit.
By designing an air
space between the firebox and stonework, along with room air vent openings high and low in the stone surround, I get
much faster
warm - up than the traditional masonry stove.
This must result in about 85 times as
much infrared radiation from the Sun, at 3.3 microns wavelength, being sent back into
space by the absorption and re-radiation from methane molecules in the upper atmosphere as could be re-radiated into the lower atmosphere for infrared radiation sourced from the
warmed Earth.
ie, Deap's new heat pump calculation tool — which is particularly punitive to exhaust air heat pumps, which use
much warmer indoor air as their source temperature compared to air source heat pumps — calculates the annual
space heating provided by the heat pump at 635.4 kWh.
The shell will still have to emit the total radiation of the planet to
space, but the planet will not be
warmed as
much by the radiation of the shell.
But the heat capacity of the atmosphere is so
much less than that of the earth, that any
warming must be minimal before it all radiates out to
space.
It's a fact that if you just take all the thousands of fairly evenly -
spaced «official» weather stations around the country and average them up since 1895, that you won't get
much of a
warming trend at all.
The shape of the CO2 band is such that, once saturated near the center over sufficiently small distances, increases in CO2 don't have
much affect on the net radiative energy transfer from one layer of air to the other so long as CO2 is the only absorbing and emitting agent — but increases in CO2 will reduce the LW cooling of the surface to
space, the net LW cooling from the surface to the air, the net LW cooling of the atmosphere to
space (except in the stratosphere), and in general, it will tend to reduce the net LW cooling from a
warmer to cooler layer when at least one of those layers contains some other absorbing / emitting substance (surface, water vapor, clouds) or is
space)
When the northern oceans are
warmer than normal, they freeze later in the season, and since they emit to an almost perfect black body (deep
space with no sunlight) they release
much more heat and take up very little, esp.
Reflective effects of aerosols recently directly observed have reflected
much radiation back to
space, reducing
warming effects, not just slowing them down.
