The disease causes an accumulation of
mucopolysaccharides, or glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) due to the impaired functioning of lysosomal enzymes that break down GAGs which help
build bones, cartilage, skin, tendons, corneas and the fluid responsible for lubricating joints.
