As the Director of GISS and Principal Investigator for the GISS ModelE Earth System Model, I am interested in understanding past, present and future climate and the impacts of
multiple drivers of climate change, including solar irradiance, atmospheric chemistry, aerosols, and greenhouse gases.

Given that we know there are
multiple drivers of climate operating (the sun for sure, but also volcanoes, aerosols, greenhouse gas
changes, land use
change, etc.) the only way to do attribution properly is calculate the physical fingerprints
of each
of these
drivers across
multiple variables and see which combinations provide the best fits.
Given the
multiple drivers of migration (Black et al., 2011a and b) and the complex interactions which mediate migratory decision - making by individual or households (Raleigh, 2008; McLeman and Smit, 2006; Kniveton et al., 2011; Black et al., 2011a and b), the projection
of the effects
of climate change on intra-rural and rural - to - urban migration remains a major challenge.
«Many other important impacts
of climate change are difficult to quantify for a given
change in global average temperature, in part because temperature is not the only
driver of change for some impacts;
multiple environmental and other human factors come into play.»
Neither
of us has a history
of environmental activism, but both
of us are moved by the compelling scientific evidence emerging from
multiple, independent lines
of study implicating human industry as the
driver of worldwide
climate change.
To identify major
drivers of southwestern
climate change we perform a
multiple - linear regression
of the past 100 years
of the southwestern US temperature and precipitation.
The conclusion that human influences are the primary
driver of recent
climate change is based on
multiple lines
of independent evidence.
PDRMIP investigates the role
of various
drivers of climate change for mean and extreme precipitation
changes, based on
multiple climate model output and energy budget analyses.
Despite the recognised importance
of multiple drivers of ecosystem
change, they are rarely all included in current
climate and ecosystem models used for assessing
climate change impacts on ecosystems (Hansen et al., 2001; Levy et al., 2004; Zebisch et al., 2004; Feddema et al., 2005; Holman et al., 2005b; Pielke, 2005).
