action during speech might have led to an extra anchor of bone, which became the chin.
As you might already know, both types of
muscle action are equally important for the
muscle building process, and

during the eccentric part of the movement.

muscles (uḍyāṇa bandha) prevents the lower abdominal organs from moving downward.
Some studies have indicated that electroencephalography (EEG)- derived movement - related cortical potentials (MRCPs) are greater
during eccentric
muscle actions than in concentric contractions (Fang et al. 2001; 2004).
Voluntary activation is lower
during eccentric
muscle actions compared to
during concentric
muscle actions (Westing et al. 1990; Amiridis et al. 1996; Beltman et al. 2004), although some studies have suggested that this effect is limited to untrained people, and that trained individuals are able to reduce this eccentric - specific deficit (Amiridis et al. 1996).
To date,
muscle moment arm studies using cadavers or computerised models have not been able to provide data on the moment arm lengths of the trapezius
during its primary
actions.

action during a bench press, there simply isn't a better upper body exercise for
muscle gain.
E.J. Higbie at University of Georgia tells us, «Greater maximum force can be developed
during maximal eccentric
muscle actions than
during concentric.»
Test - re-test reliability is greater
during submaximal compared to maximal
muscle actions, when comparing with a single day compared to between days, and when using visual feedback about force levels being produced.
When
muscles are lengthened or shortened, this seems to alter the cross-sectional area of the
muscle fiber, which probably changes
muscle conduction velocity (Kamen & Caldwell, 1996) and may also change the geometry of the particular region of the
muscle being measured
during the
muscle action.
However, whether the same normalization method is appropriate for high speed
muscle actions is less clear (Ball & Scurr, 2013), particularly as it is common to find percentages of EMG that are > 100 % of MVIC
during high velocity sports movements such as sprint running (Kyröläinen et al. 2005; Liebenberg et al. 2011).
The linearity of the relationship between the size of the EMG amplitude recorded and the force produced
during isometric or slow, controlled dynamic
muscle actions is unclear.
There are preliminary indications that hip adductor strengthening programs may be beneficial for reducing the incidence of adductor - related groin strain injury (Engebretsen et al. 2008; Hölmich et al. 2010; see review by Esteve et al. 2015) and also that wearing compression shorts may be beneficial for reducing the load on the adductor longus
during return to sport post-injury, by virtue of reducing the
muscle activity
during cutting
actions (Chaudhari et al. 2014).
An EMG amplitude can therefore be taken as a global measure of motor unit activity
during the
muscle action being performed.
When using surface electrodes, the equipment detects the voltage in any number of
muscle fibers that are close to the surface of the skin, which may or may not be innervated quasi-randomly at any given moment
during a
muscle action (Reaz et al. 2006).
Assessing the effect of bench press
muscle action and region, Newton et al. (1997) found that a greater concentric average velocity was achieved at all loads between 15 — 90 % of 1RM
during the bench press throw when preceded by the eccentric
muscle action compared to the concentric - only
muscle action.
It therefore showed that the aspects of an exercise that determine transfer to sport are not limited to the movement pattern, but include other factors such as the
muscle group being trained (the hamstrings are key to sprinting ability), and the mode of the contraction (eccentric
muscle actions are very important
during sprinting).
Also, there is a difference between the shortening and lengthening phases, with EMG amplitude being lower for the same force output
during lengthening
muscle actions compared to similar shortening
muscle actions (Disselhorst - Klug et al. 2009).
This is because EMG amplitude represents the extent to which the individual motor units within a
muscle are active
during a joint
action.
In practice, this means that drawing inferences about the
muscle force that might be produced
during fatiguing
muscle actions is not appropriate.
This builds on older work finding that increasing loads
during carrying
actions increases gluteus medius
muscle activity (Neumann and Cook, 1985; Neumann et al. 1992), particularly when loads were carried unilaterally rather than bilaterally (Neumann et al. 1992) or on the contralateral side rather than on the ipsilateral side (Neumann and Cook, 1985).

during performance of the
muscle action, while A-EMG provides a better indicator of the overall EMG amplitude averaged across the whole movement (Hibbs et al. 2011).
