It was during his visit to the Paris Biennial a few years back that he came to see how reliant
contemporary artists have become
on what
museum marketing staffs like to call «the Shock of the New.»
Prof. Berndt's lecture will focus
on three aspects: 1) the ir / relevance of traditional Japanese painting for
contemporary manga; 2) manga
museums compared to recent manga exhibitions in Japanese art
museums; and 3) the unilateral interest in manga by
contemporary artists such as Murakami Takashi and Aida Makoto.
Museum of Stones, a massive installation by Brancusi - influenced Isamu Noguchi, will be supplemented with fifty works by thirty other
contemporary artists, as well as by fifteen ancient Chinese rock - related objects, which are
on loan from the Met.
Five decades of the
artist's work will go
on view at the
Museum of
Contemporary Art Chicago beginning February 24.
The foundation funds exhibitions of and projects by Russian
contemporary artists, such as Ilya and Emilia Kabokov's 2014 installation at the Grand Palais, and the New
Museum's 2012 exhibition «Ostalgia,» which focused
on Eastern European
contemporary art.
«None of the terms of painting really make sense to me,» the
artist Molly Zuckerman - Hartung said
on Saturday at the New
Museum's
contemporary painting symposium, held in honor of its current Albert Oehlen survey.
The
Museum's exhibition programme and collection focuses
on contemporary Polish and International
artists and its resources include the Filmoteka Muzeum — a collection of
artists» films comprising of a few hundred titles, available online.
With a frame reflecting the New
Museum's approach to its own triennial — whereby it focuses
on emerging
artists — the show offered a platform upon which to explore a new generation of
contemporary practices.

Ballroom Marfa is an independent
contemporary cultural arts space which supports emerging and established
artists working in the visual arts, film, music and performance and in particular,
on projects that would be impossible to stage in traditional gallery or
museum settings.
Works by African American
contemporary artists from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida will be presented in six spaces at the
museum where the institution's permanent collection is usually

Organized by Tumelo Mosaka (Curator of
Contemporary Art at the Krannert Art
Museum), University of Illinois, this exhibition focuses
on the various ways
artists from around the world respond to issues about identity particularly those defined by race and ethnicity.
Curated by Charlotta Kotik, the former chairman of the Department of
Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn
Museum, the exhibition will feature approximately forty works, the majority of them large in scale, by ten New York
artists who use eccentric and frequently obsessive techniques to create singular works
on paper.
Moreover, the exhibition will coincide with The
Museum of
Contemporary Art San Diego's exhibition Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface, which focuses
on perceptual investigations undertaken by
artists during the 1960s and 70s.
