I have been suffering from fibromyalgia and
myofascia pain syndrome since 2009.
Because myofascia is relatively superficial, it can be influenced through foam rolling (self - myofascial release), which helps to reduce these restrictions by remobilizing the tissue through friction and mechanical stress, helping to return the fascia into its original gel - like state (3).
When you attack you cause
the myofascia to contract and over time that becomes its default reaction.
The structural relationship of the bones and
myofascia is characterized by a term called Tensegrity (the word derived from the combination of Tensional and Integrity).
The truth is the bones actually «float» within the body's soft tissue or
myofascia.
In Tensegrity, the bones are compressive elements that are suspended (not stacked upon each other) within
the myofascia that are tension elements.
The deep presses squash the muscles, stretching
the myofascia sideways.
When a muscle undergoes increased stress, the tissue suffers from breakdown and fatigue, which affects
the myofascia locally and globally across the entire fascial chain (6).
This type of foam roller was used because it places more pressure on
the myofascia compared with a Bio-foam roller made from uniform polystyrene foam (15.24 - cm diameter)(15).
