The first Venom
trailer, which premiered earlier this year, didn't really impress me, mostly because it looked like a retread of
about a hundred other comic -
book movies of its ilk.

about the Iran - Contra affair might
not seem to have much in common, but in the new
trailers for each of these movies, they're all being sold the same way: with music that sounds an awful lot like Kanye West's «Black Skinhead.»
Sure, you can send out review copies and make
book trailers (
not for $ 150 tho), but if an author's end goal is to attract more readers — or even a publishing contract — they first need to get their work in front of people who can help them, and that's what the IRDAs are all
about.
I watch them when they appear on Amazon or B&N.com, and for
books I don't know much
about, the
trailer often influences my decision to buy.
A
trailer isn't
about selling a
book, it's made for the fans to have an extra dose of excitement for the story and the characters.

about «The Insane World of
Book Trailers.»
Show, Don't Tell
Book trailers can be especially helpful when they bring the different practices or skills they write
about to life.
In a recent blog post
about his
book trailer, Steven Johnson wrote: «I have to admit when the good folks at Riverhead mentioned that they were working on an animated video promoting Where Good Ideas Come From, I wasn't fully convinced it was going to be worth the effort.»
As one of the producers of
book trailers mentioned in the WSJ article and someone who provided a lot of information that didn't make it into the article (in all fairness you just can't cover everything) I had hoped to see more information
about the evolution of
book video distribution as part of that article.
If you don't have a
book video
trailer how are moblile users sharing information
about your
book?
Most of us don't have the resources to produce
book trailers or videos with this quality, but study these to see what you like
about them.
The single biggest reason
book trailers don't work is because they don't compel the reader into action and don't clearly present what the
book is
about.
Shelving all debate
about whether or
not book trailers actually sell
books, if this was a «real»
trailer and
not just for fun, I'd still sure as heck buy the
book!
When someone buys your
book after seeing the
trailer, they shouldn't be surprised by what they read and think, «Wow, this wasn't what I thought this
book was
about at all.
I wasn't completely convinced
about the validity of
book trailers to sell
books, though I'd seen a few very well produced
trailers that had me wavering, mostly live action, expensive productions.

Beyond that, as I alluded to in the opening, there's sort of been a new expectation / conventional wisdom creeping up that the key to being a Good Hardworking Promoting Author is to blow out your blog, your Facebook page, your website, your Twitter feed, your Goodreads network, and better yet, all of the above and by the way you need to set up your own author tour and try to get some media appearances going we'd love it if you placed some articles and stories and where's your
book trailer oh also don't quit your day job and don't forget
about your manuscript deadline and make sure the next
book is incredible and amazing and could you spend some time with your family please?
That is why you don't have to include a full summary of what your
book is all
about in your
trailer.
i didn't even know
about book trailers until today, i was looking in to self publishing and they charge up the wazoo!
I don't have any clue how to use YouTube properly other than
book trailers, but what
about as a visual, talking head Blog?
