They are
not unbelievers, these men; but for them the dominions, principalities, powers and rulers of the darkness of this world have a reality that makes the difference between

The word kosmos in
ancient Greek actually means «order» and
not «universe,» and in their
mythology the Greeks claimed that the cosmos emerged out of Chaos, which is simply a way of terminating the wonderment in a non «explanation, indeed in a nonsensical non «explanation.
You don't understand science and then get all antsy because those who understand it far better don't believe in

However, The Great Wall (as evidenced by the teaser trailer, above) imagines a different, more fantastical explanation for the massive construction: A battle fortress created to repel
not human invaders, but an attack by rampaging monsters of
ancient Chinese
mythology.
The important thing is that I didn't base the book exactly on any one other book, it's a mashup of themes and elements I found in several other books; and those books are borrowing themes and elements from
ancient mythology or pop culture (public knowledge).
I am
not entirely familiar with Egyptian
mythology or
ancient religion, so that was new to me as well.
