STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island Democrats still do
not have a candidate to
run in the
special election for Congress against Republican District Attorney Daniel Donovan, even after the Democratic executive committee interviewed three prospective candidates Wednesday night.
Doheny doesn't yet have competition for the GOP nod, since the man he defeated
in the primary last year, Doug Hoffman, (the Tea Party darling of the 2009
special election, who forced former Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava out of the race and then split the vote with her, costing the Republicans a seat they'd held for more than a century), hasn't yet decided whether to
run.
He said Wednesday that he's interested, but he can't commit to
running in a
special election just yet.
Since a primary will
not be held for the vacated seat, county Democratic leaders will be tasked with choosing a candidate to
