not search for award space online for some of Alaska's partners, such as Cathay Pacific.
For example, even though I used American Airlines miles to book Cathay Pacific first class flights, I didn't search for award availability on the AA website.

Things didn't start well when BA.com refused to offer me ANY Iberia flights when I
searched for award availability on the one day I'm free to do this trip.

award flight to South America,
search for space exclusively on LAN (LA) and do
not get your hopes up with TAM flights.
One thing to keep in mind is that ANA won't always show you the partners available
for booking, so you sometimes you'll need to
search United and Aeroplan
for flights to Bangkok and then call up ANA to locate the partner
award seats.

award from Los Angeles to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific — a good example because Cathay Pacific is one partner that you can book using American Airlines or Alaska Airlines miles, but you can't

award space on United.com anymore.
