The only way to successfully train a dog
using the old style force methods, is to be an expert at

not stress enough how important it is that you do
not take your dog to big events
using retractable
leashes.
If your puppy feels safe on her
leash, then don't be afraid to
use it.
He will
use that trust that you would
not put him in harm's way to conquer
leash walking skills as well as passing by loud, large, and frightening people, objects, and even flooring types.
You can't put a
leash on a dolphin, nor is it going to be easier to teach it to spin or jump by
using your hands or
using your body language.

using hand feeding; f.) a limited amount of obedience training, such as teaching the dogs to heel on a loose lead at the handler's side; g.) a «claw» technique, his own version of the «alpha rollover», and a pursuit technique to deal with dogs that don't show submission to other dogs or people; h.) «flooding» for phobias; i.) «calm / assertive» handler techniques; j.) touch and sound techniques to interrupt, correct and / or redirect behaviors; k.) a variety of traditional manners rules, which are implemented with the «no free lunch» type of approach; l.) a variety of games and other «mental challenges»; m.) human intervention; and n.) electric collars (
not mentioned, as I recall, in the book)
You will probably only need to
use the e-collar for certain dog behaviors, like training your dog
not to go into the street,
leash aggression,
not to bark at the mailman, or other unwanted behaviors, for example.
If you have osteoporosis,
use a short
leash that won't get tangled.
But for those who can't imagine living without a Great Pyrenees — get a
leash and
use it.

leash, slip it on but carry her outside and
use the phrases you've been teaching him for elimination.
If the child is old enough to walk the dog, make sure that they know
not to drag the dog around and
use a good quality dog
leash that is secure and that allows the dog room to check out their surroundings.
