To install, they used liquid
nails and a
nail gun, and then
did a final coat of paint.
We didn't use any sort of adhesive or
nail them into the studs... my husband just used a
nail gun and put six or so
nails in each plank.
The few times I've
done this, the
nail gun (and / or hammer) would keep hitting the wall while I was trying to use it.
I see that you said you connected the shelves to the rear supports with glue and

I didn't have a
nail gun when I
did this project back in 2007, so I just used wood glue to hold everything together.

nails, 31.5 inches is the center of the wall so why
did I drill at 32.5 inches??? I think I am stuck in a an episode of Days of our Lives at times.
While it's holding up well now, before packing it away come January, we're going to use our
nail gun and add some
nails too, just to make sure the frame pieces don't eventually pop off.
(Use a
nail gun and construction adhesive to attach it to the ceiling, but don't forget to cut holes for new light fixtures before you put it up!
The boards were
nailed (
nail gun) and glued very close together (I don't believe the contractor used spacers at all) so the grooves between are less pronounced (nice for not accumulating dust, I suppose!).

done EXACTLY what I needed someone to
do for me... I had been experiencing serious and debilitating yearnings for a
nail gun, but after trying to read all the warnings and the muddled instructions, I was backing away for fear I would destroy something or myself.

I would recommend securing them using a
nail gun or screws if you want to be sure it doesn't fall apart.
With my electric
nail gun and my dad's expertise, we got this job
done pretty fast and that really added some much needed architectural details to this plain Jane dining room.
if you find yourself trying to it's to install baseboards, crown moulding, and frame out doorways with a hammer and
nails, an air compressor with a
nail gun will make your life a lot easier, and will allow you to
do those projects a lot faster.
We then measured our center line, dabbed some E6000 glue to the applique (wood glue works just as well) and hammered in three small finish
nails (we don't have our
nail gun here but hand tools work just fine!)
I love my Ryobi battery powered
nail guns, especially for quick projects because I don't have to take the time to hook up the air compressor.
I highly suggest you purchase a
nail gun if you're going to
do this.
