Once we painted the risers white, we used Liquid Nails to install the risers then hit them with
the nail gun so they'd be secure.

We marked the studs in the wall and penciled in lines
so we would know where to
nail with the

We didn't use any sort of adhesive or
nail them into the studs... my husband just used a
nail gun and put six or
so nails in each plank.

nailer: Whenever I see bloggers installing trim, they're usually using a pancake compressor and
gun (like trim pros Yellow Brick Home),
so I assumed I'd have to invest in that as well.

I didn't have a
nail gun when I did this project back in 2007,
so I just used wood glue to hold everything together.

Like how come The Home Depot and Lowe's saw is still not working, am I the only one that ever picks out bowed wood, why is my

The boards were
nailed (
nail gun) and glued very close together (I don't believe the contractor used spacers at all)
so the grooves between are less pronounced (nice for not accumulating dust, I suppose!).

Getting the
nails in at the right angle can be tricky, just try to keep the
nail gun parallel to the floor
so the
nails go into the 12 ″ board.
