NAME OF THE FATHER or MY LEFT FOOT, but Irish director
Jim Sheridan's third collaboration with
actor Daniel Day - Lewis offers an intriguing portrait of a man trapped by his own past.
IN AMERICA (Grade: C):
Jim Sheridan — the Irish director of «My Left Foot» and «In the
Name of the Father» — tries to bring off his own, semi-autobiographical version of «To Kill a Mockingbird» with this episodic drama about an Irish
actor and his family trying to survive its first year in a Manhattan.
That's saying quite a lot too, considering the «Potter» ensemble is a veritable who's who of contemporary British and Irish
actors with Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon,
Jim Broadbent, John Hurt, Emma Thompson and the late Richard Harris to
name just a few.
