It's tedious work, but the
author's
name and reputation are at stake
here, and not only his or hers, but every other indie
author's out there.
In fact, two commenters
here are the
authors who helped launched the STGRB site by
naming those two as proof of «
author victims».
I would argue they are significantly different services because, although both result in the
author holding a bound book in her hands with her
name on the cover, one involves a relatively large print run of that book, a distribution deal (we're still talking about HQN
here), and branding.
The benefits
here are two-fold: not only do you get a review that is likely to be well - written, but if that
author has any avid readers their
name will carry more weight.
I should be a bit more specific
here — most of the rhetoric in publishing circles isn't about «paid reviews» — after all, I can pay someone to review my work, and I can, and should, ask for an honest appraisal — most of it is about deliberate, flagrant dishonesty, and the most notable cases, somewhat related, are when
authors write reviews on their own work with fictitious
names.
So, in the dark recesses of my mind, all I can hope is that our
authors find some kernels of marketing insights from this blog and can apply concepts I introduce
here to their writing, publishing, and marketing efforts in the
name of making them more successful.

But
here's the thing about your
author name: if they don't know who you are, your
name is meaningless.

Of course it's up to you, but factoring in your writing career as an
author of multiple books, marketing and branding, the best play
here is to use your
author name or your chosen pen
name as your domain.
Here are some traditionally published
authors who hopped onto the Indie bus: Jordan Dane and John Barlow, to
name two.
Here are five ways to get reviews for your self - published book (or even traditionally - published, because these days they expect
authors to do their own marketing unless their first
name starts with Stephen and ends with... well, you get the idea).
As you are compiling your list of terms,
here are some things that should not be indexed:
authors cited in the bibliography; illustrations, if the book already contains a list of these; unimportant subjects (of course, this is subjective and is a matter of the indexer's perspective); incidental
names of people, topics and places that are not mentioned beyond being used as examples.
It's important to note that you will never be -LCB- insert famous
author's
name here -RCB--- you can only be yourself.
But
here's the thing: If you're not a big -
name author, there are really good odds no one will ever check out your e-book.
Now, I had never placed the book there; I had no information about foreign rights from my former publisher with a delightful email or letter saying that rights had been sold to France, Belgium, Germany or anything connected with the UK — in fact, I never got a dime from the publisher for any foreign right sales (typically an
author would get 50 %)... but golly,
here my book was with a new cover, the same title and yes, my
name was clearly on the cover and available in those countries.
Apparently they were mostly plagiarized from successful
authors» works, with the
names changed and a word
here and there altered.
Initials rule: some
authors never use their
names —

It covers a summary -LRB-... based on a novel by a man
named Lear), conflict -LRB-... his clinging wife doesn't understand), characterization (It's a dirty story of a dirty man), motivation (it's a steady job but he wants to be...), length -LRB-... a thousand pages give or take a few),
author flexibility (I can make it longer if you like the style), the writer's acceptance of reality (If you must return it you can send it
here), and a heartfelt closing (But I need a break).
Authors just put your own
name here.
Now
here comes the benefit of owning that book domain
name: as soon as you no longer need this dedicated website you can simply forward your domain as noted above to the book page on your
author website and no one will ever get lost.
We usually get the metadata from the title and copyright page (for example, the book title,
author name, copyright info, cover designer, etc.) More on metadata that goes into an eBook
here if you'd like us to add in something specific.
Add Contributors (optional): Unlike KDP, you do not need to add the
author name here.
If you use a pen
name be sure to use the correct
author name here.
