Unlike ever before, the power to create and share work is firmly in the hands of writers, and dealing with difficult, big -
name publishing houses is finally a thing of the past.
Those who want to get their words into the hands of the masses are no longer limited by the monopoly of big
name publishing houses.
Another reason I chose to self publish my work, except that shockingly, I didn't have big
name publishing houses and companies beating my door down for my signature to print my stories, was that I have total control over my work, from which pages get included, the cover design, the ISBN identification, previews that get shared on Amazon etc, the price of the finished product, the description and even keywords that are used to find it in online web searches.
But what really happens is that your book — along with thousands of other titles from big -
name publishing houses — will be listed in databases from which bookstores order their books.
So while big
name publishing houses like Simon & Schuster, Lonely Planet, agent Aitken Alexander, and the Hay Festival are in the process of settling down in India, others such as Bloomsbury have announced its India operations would kick off in May 2012.
As an aside, I have read (and put down) several books from big
name publishing houses that were virtually unreadable.
In today's world it doesn't matter whether your book is published by a big -
name publishing house, or by you; either way, the author, not the publisher, drives readers to the store, period.

houses.
Brand
name authors become an asset that
publishing houses tend with some care.
Questions about being picked up by a major traditional

names come with pedigrees from some of the best known traditional
publishing houses.

Something worth considering is that with any big
name author currently out there the work has already been done for them on the branding and marketing front by the
publishing houses so it's easy to move the books, print or E, on that basis already.
I think more likely, Amazon is tired of authors who make a
name for themselves selling their eBooks with Amazon then signing with traditional
publishing houses for lucrative print contracts.
