She was named the 2013 New York High School Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the 2010 New York State Outstanding Educator by the New York State School Administrators Association.
Without identifying everyone by name, in addition to me there was a man who worked for the college board, a former staff member who is now a public school parent, a current high school principal of an «A» rated school who was going to host Matt and Elisa at her school later that day, a school leader from a school that is featured as a «miracle» public school in Wendy Kopp's last book, and which gets mentioned at fundraiser events, a 1990 alum who has been teaching for 22 years, and a former TFA staff member who now works for the New York City Department of Education.
She started her teaching career with Teach for America in a greater New Orleans high school, where she was named best county teacher of the year.
It also came on the heels of the very first charter educator being named 2017's National Teacher of the Year, as well as a public charter high school, Amistad Academy in New Haven, being recognized as the No. 1 public high school in the state of Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report.
She served as Project Designer / Director of the Drake Integrated Studies Curricula at Sir Francis Drake High School, named a «New American High School» by the US Department of Education.
