Nanomedicine at Johns Hopkins, led by Hanes, encapsulated the BPTES in a nanoparticle capsule coated in polyethylene glycol, a molecule used widely in medicines and industrial
products, using a method they developed to provide a more uniform coating.
In this study, targeted
nanomedicines made from polymeric building blocks that are utilized in numerous FDA approved
products to date, were nanoengineered to carry an anti-inflammatory drug payload in the form of a biomimetic peptide.
