nanoporous semiconductor at the top to oxygen - poor at the bottom.
In the case of Ge - based
semiconductors a lot of work was done on the direct tailoring of the material geometry (nanowires, phononic crystals,
nanoporous materials, etc.) achieving for example materials with ultra-low thermal conductivity.
