Another key player is the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), long a sleepy «voluntary» accrediting
body whose
transformation began in 1991, when Arthur E. Wise took its helm.
Since 1969, Yale's undergraduate student
body has slowly sloughed off its image as an elitist group of prep school alumni, and the
national landscape of college admissions has undergone a dramatic
transformation as well.
