The Japanese
Nationality Law limits dual citizenship and requires
children to make a decision at age 22.
While changes in
nationality law in 2006 entitled illegitimate
children to British citizenship, this did not operate retrospectively.
For English lawyers this is self - evident but for jurisdictions which might have applied the
law relating to the
nationality of the parties and the
child (ie Spain) it is important.
