Does having a Midwife mean I have to have
a natural birth without pain medication?
Whether this means slowing down at work, choosing to have
a natural birth without painkillers, or making informed decisions at the hospital, they are all personal choices, but choices that should be carefully considered nonetheless.
This is a message following fleurs comment, who are you to say
natural birth without any pain relief is the way we should go about it?
Many women do go in labor and plan to have
a natural birth without any preparation.

But for moms who desire

birth defects so they can't choose, people who are psychotic or sociopaths and incapable of controlling their minds, people who are born in fundamentalist Muslim areas who never had the opportunity to choose or who would be murdered on the spot if they so «chose», people who God gave too much intelligence too to believe such an inane demand
without more evidence, people who die in
natural disasters before they were quite willing to convert etc. etc..
Speaking
without the expertise of a theologian or medical doctor, there are to my mind only two reasonably clear
natural divisions in prenatal life: its beginning, at conception, and its end, at
birth.
It was a
natural water
birth in our home
without any anaesthesia.
It would be like throwing people out of the
natural birth community because of the circumstances of their
birth without regard for their ideology and preference.
Following this reasoning, the most
natural and ideal thing to do would be to give
birth naturally
without any medicine involved.

natural thing on earth and millions of women go through it
without «complications», fear or intervention?

They forgot about the oxytocin... My vaginal
birth not having messed things up (and the pitocin having even increased my

Natural birth is not mutually inclusive with home
birth or going to birthing centers
without obs and pediatricians on duty.
Repeat c - sections are also not
without risk and the
natural birth community was encouraging you to weigh that risk much more heavily than the risk of other complications.
Natural childbirth can mean many things for many people, but in general it means to give
birth without certain forms of interventions, specifically pain relieving medications.
And so a
natural birth, one
without an epidural or any other intervention of the sort, was written into my
birth plan.
If you were planning to have a
natural birth but change your mind during labour, you shouldn't feel disappointed or guilty; although most women are told about the pain caused by labour, nothing can prepare you for the actual feeling and if you can't handle the pain
without a little help this is completely normal.
In addition, as water
births are usually «
natural»
births, meaning done
without pain medication, many women choose this method because it feels more
natural.

It's understandable to want a «
natural, uncomplicated
birth without interventions,» although my wife VERY much wanted (and got) an epidural.
Look for a midwife or doctor and
birth setting setting with high rates of successful
natural births,
without routine unnecessary interventions, that completely allows you to have your voice, and respects and supports your decisions.

My husband knew how much I wanted to have a
natural birth but
without his support and encouragement I would have been tempted to go for the easy option.

The Lamaze technique puts particular emphasis on

My friend was convinced to VBAC for her second because «
natural is better,» and gave

natural is better,» and was slightly post-dates because «
natural is better.»
Clearly, a woman who can give a quick,
natural birth for her first has a good chance of doing it again
without the interventions they tried to give me!
