nearby galaxies for their oldest stars has uncovered two stars in the Sculptor dwarf galaxy that were born shortly after the galaxy formed, approximately 13 billion years ago.
Unlike most supernovae surveys, which look for bright bursts of light, Kochanek would monitor about 30
nearby galaxies for curious patches of darkness where a star had suddenly disappeared.
