While it can take many months of continual behavioral modification exercises and medical therapy before the condition is corrected, most dogs usually improve with time and eventually regain a normal or nearly normal quality of life.
Some babies will have a nearly unnoticeable disability that barely interferes with a normal fulfilling life, others will be disabled to the point that they will be incapable of being independent and face the prospect of a very poor quality of life.
