Category Changes Many of the
hotel reward programs adjust the categories of the
hotels (and therefore the points
needed for one
free nights) on a regular basis to reflect the changing prices at
hotel rooms.
On the rewards side, consider how many points you'll
need for a
free night stay at a particular
hotel, and how much spending would be necessary to earn those points.
Hilton is guilty of that «teaser» trick, advertising a low redemption rate of only 5,000 points
for a
free night (or a $ 1,000 spend), but there are only a handful of
hotels in category 1 or 2, so you
need a whooping 20,000 points (or $ 4,000 spend) to be able to redeem at the cheapest 10 % of their
hotels!
Personally, I'm a big fan of the weekend getaways at top
hotels, so I really like the two
free nights and would probably not feel the
need to hold off
for a different offer.
In order to redeem a
