Finally, more work needs to be done to demonstrate the differential utility of measures for different assessment - related purposes (e.g., evaluations of interventions vs. diagnostic evaluations vs. research endeavors).

As noted by Kazdin (2005), we may need to identify the different purposes of assessment in the field of pediatric psychology including diagnosis, prognosis, assessing treatment outcome, case management, and basic research (Pelham et al., 2005) and then develop evidence - based criteria for each of these purposes.

At least equally important, the MDI validation research program needs to determine the limits of usage, to avoid that the MDI is used for purposes for which it is not valid.

This will allow state administrators to obtain an unduplicated count of children receiving early childhood services, will provide a more complete picture of the needs of children and families, and will create opportunities to analyze data for long - term analysis and research purposes.
