Needs type
of course so they at least become familiar with the general characteristics and social - emotional issues

gifted students, a very thorough section for parents
of the
gifted, details about the different methods often used for identification
of the
gifted, curriculum resources for teachers, a section for

of social and emotional

Keep in mind that
gifted kids don't learn the same way the others do - they make great leaps in understanding in a very short time - they don't
need endless repetition and worksheets, and depth
of discussion makes a lot
of difference.
At 9, the school was incapable
of comprehending that the
needs of profoundly
gifted kids are as different from those
of highly
gifted kids as the
needs of highly
gifted kids are from those
of «average»
kids.
Gifted students are likely going to be ready for those despite what we do in school, and in many cases they walk into school already proficient on grade level content, so there is no
need to expend precious dollars and personnel boosting the achievement
of kids who
need no boost.

Highly
gifted kids need other
kids who can understand them and communicate with them and share some
of the things they care about, just like everybody else.
As parents
of gifted children, we understand that our children do not have it easy at all, but it is going to be a long, difficult battle to overcome the misperception that
gifted kids are smart, life is easy and don't
need anything.
