nets along the ocean floor, researchers estimate that millions of tons of catch have gone unreported in the last 50 years.
They were once found all
along Portugal's coastline, herding fish into
nets, retrieving lost equipment from the
sea and taking messages between ships and back to shore.
Paul Watson of
Sea Shepherd, who founded the organization in 1977, says that the group plans on sending two large vessels into Libyan water,
along with several scouting boats, to cut the
nets set out by fishermen.
