I don't think it's fair to lump all people reading pirated eBooks into the same category, because many of them are victims of higher institutions of learning that force their students to buy course material written
by the teachers and published in very small print runs, jacking the price of a hardcover textbook up to over $ 100 in many cases, with a

coming out every year, making any «used»
book market obsolete.
A mailing list helps you to connect with your readers on a constant basis, and more importantly, let them know about

coming out so that you can have an initial wave of purchases
by readers who wanted to know when your next
book came out!
But rather than segregating self published
books, what I would rather see is an education of the public to differentiate between the terms vanity publishing (which I think most folks agree is generally bad and awful and will never lose its stigma), self - publishing (which often connotes work that has not been properly vetted
by people who know how to judge a good product) and indie publishing, which is a term that those of us who use it are hoping will
come to mean quality — work that has been vetted
by independent editors and formatted
by people who give a damn about putting
out a professional product that rivals anything put
out by New York.
As a
new author (my first
book came out in Feb.) this has
by far been the most difficult thing I've had to learn.

came out last July — it was the much anticipated
new novel from the author of Little Bee, and it was also the
book to coincide with the 2012 Summer Olympics.
As for
books, few
out there of interest right now these
new authors don't seem to
come close to the tried & true older ones such as Jeffrey Archer Maeve Binchy.etc.etc seeped in more PC.garbage that you get all the time
by the media why then would one want to buy it.

This May we are seeing lots of
new YA
books coming out by the likes of Rick Riordan and Charlaine Harris.
You knew that if you didn't screw it up
by bringing
books out too close together,
by not giving them basically the same cover and
by by letting purchasing agents for bookstores know that Midlister A had a
new book coming out you'd have a pretty much guaranteed income of X-dollars.
With literally 100s of thousands of
new books coming out each year, it is virtually impossible for an unknown author who self - publishes to get a «free» review
by one of the traditional
book review organizations.
Yesterday my

books have another subgenre on Amazon of «time travel», because this is actually another best seller list!»
