new law actually punishes people who are using their plastics responsibly).
The
new law prohibits
credit card issuers from charging over-limit fees unless you choose to allow for over-limit transactions.
Although recent debt reform may protect you from instantaneous and retroactive rate increases, the
new laws do not place caps on interest rates charged by
credit card issuers and other finance companies.
These
new regulations, which are all good
laws BTW, intent to protect consumers by prohibiting banks from imposing arbitrary high interest rates on
credit cards and charging outrageous bank fees.
New changes to the
credit card law require that
credit card applicants under age 21 have their own source of income or have a co-signer to be approved for a
credit card.

In the past,
credit card companies could make changes with the wind, but
new laws have stopped practices such as raising the rate on your
card simply because a competitor raised your rate on their
card.
In the months leading up to the start of the
law, banks have closed inactive
credit card accounts, slashed
credit limits on some accounts and hiked interest rates on millions of accounts in anticipation of the
new law's restrictions.

When you borrow money — whether it is in the form of charging purchases on a
credit card or a

law allows your creditors to take certain lawful actions when you fail to make your payments including, but not limited to, reclaiming the items that still have unpaid balances.

What is the administration doing to protect the consumer from
credit card companies who are increasing the interest rates before the
new law goes into effect in 2010?
Most of the questions I'm getting are from people who aren't happy about changes to their
credit -
card agreements prompted by the
new law, and now they want to kick their
card and issuer to the curb.
