Since then she has held Senior
Curator positions at the American Federation
of Arts and Location One, both in
New York City, and perhaps, most famously, was the Founding
Curator of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum, where she conceived and launched the very first
exhibition and public programming space in a U.S. museum devoted exclusively to feminist art.
In the fall
of 2011, Ballroom Marfa will mount the
exhibition AutoBody, which showcases a single
new work and installation, North
of South, West
of East, by emerging film and video artist Meredith Danluck, alongside the sculptural works
of Liz Cohen, Matthew Day Jackson and Jonathan Schipper, organized by
curator Neville Wakefield.
In addition to presenting a dynamic schedule
of exhibitions, the gallery collaborates with renowned
curators to present museum quality surveys and invests considerable resources in
new scholarship and research.
As a
curator of performance, Tancons organized the first
New York solo
exhibitions of artists Robin Rhode at Artists Space (2004) and Ralph Lemon at the Kitchen (2007) as well as one
of the first showcases
of Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky's Re-Birth
of a Nation project at Paula Cooper Gallery.
Throughout the day there will be art - making activities, a scavenger hunt,
curator tours
of the
new exhibitions, free ice cream from the Stone Fox Creamery Truck, and live music by family - friendly Gent Treadly!
Senior
curator Jennifer Powell explains the
exhibition will include «early sculptures and works on paper from the late 1930s onwards as well as large scale paintings from 1940 - 51, the period in which Pousette - Dart was part
of the burgeoning
New York art scene and developing Abstract Expressionism.
It is curated by Achim Borchardt - Hume, Director
of Exhibitions, Tate Modern; and Leah Dickerman, The Marlene Hess
Curator of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum
of Modern Art,
New York; with Catherine Wood, Senior
Curator, International Art (Performance), Tate Modern; and Fiontán Moran and Juliette Rizzi, Assistant
