Betsy grew up in Westchester, New York the daughter of a mother who was herself a graduate of Cooper Union and professional artist, and a father who practiced law for many years.

This contemporary Iranian artist has graduated to a whole new format in her work and we now see her embrace a scale that allows for a more expansive dialogue with the artist and her vision.

After graduating from Yale, Casteel had her first solo show in New York at the gallery Sargent's Daughters, and then was invited to be an artist in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem.

In order to make the actual production of art a more palpable part of the graduate program, the Center initiated an artist - in - residence program which allows for one or more artists to spend from a semester to a year at the CCS making new work and engaging with the program in other ways.
